Mediavine recently launched an awesome feature in the latest version of Create (1.6.7), and while most publishers may not have noticed it, we promise you’ll appreciate it. We’ve added what …
It’s been awhile since I’ve had the privilege to write something for the Mediavine blog, but I couldn’t be more excited about what I get to share!
Create is releasing its new version today and with it comes a few new features that we can’t wait for you to see.
With version 1.8.0, we’ve got Hands Free Mode and Review Call to Actions (CTAs) ready for you!
And don’t worry, we know how much you want new features! More are coming, we swear.
What is Hands Free Mode?
Hands Free Mode is a setting you can opt-in to that allows your readers to keep their screen awake, if enabled.
This means your users can work on their recipe or craft without having to continually turn on their device again!
What Devices Does Hands Free Mode Work With?
We know this setting is pretty exciting, but there is a catch.
It doesn’t work with every device — sorry, iPhone users! — but we’ve listed below who this will be available for.
The toggle is automatically suppressed on devices that aren’t supported, so you don’t have to worry about it not working for those users.
Review CTAs
Something else we’ve heard is that you’d like leaving reviews to be easier for readers, and we definitely agree.
Enabling the new Review CTA setting will add an additional review box for readers both in the Create card itself and above the comments, if they haven’t already left a review.
When Do the Review CTAs Appear?
The Review CTAs will appear for a reader if they haven’t already left a review on a specific card from that device before.
The CTA in the Create card itself should always appear if that setting is enabled.
The CTA box above the comments section will appear if you have the Enable Public Reviews setting turned on and have your selector set correctly.
Both of the CTAs will also follow your Always Enable Review Popup setting.
Just as an example, if you have that disabled, your readers should still be able to leave a 4 or 5 star rating without leaving a review.
Other New Additions
We also have a few new settings that should hopefully add some ease of use for you, too!
- Inheriting your Theme Font Size – Looking to have your Create card font match that of your theme? Just enable this new setting! No more CSS needed 🎉.
- Faster List Saving – If you’ve noticed your longer lists taking longer to save since the 1.7.0 release, we’ve got a fix that should get it back to a speedy save.
What’s That Notice About?
Something else you might notice when you update to Create 1.8.0 is a deprecation message about the Ad Density setting. We put that there to let you know that in the next major version of Create, 1.9.0, we’ll be moving the Ad Density setting.
No fears, though! We’re just moving it over to the Mediavine Dashboard so you’ll still have full control over your Create card ad settings.
If you want to make any changes before 1.9.0 is released, head over to the Dashboard now to make those changes so it’ll take affect once you download that version. You’ll find it under Settings > In-Content Settings > Recipe Ads (and yes, it will still work with How-to cards 🎉!).
Another thing to note is that we’re leaving the List ads setting where it is in Create so no changes on that front!
What’s Next?
The team has been hard at work on the next few releases so we’re really excited about what’s to come with Create.
We’ve collected all of your feedback and are working on our roadmap to get those requests into Create as fast as we can. Be sure to keep an eye out!
